UPDATED ON JUNE 22, 2015

The next meeting of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect is scheduled for the morning of June 23, 2015. According to an announcement issued by the Special Committee in this respect, during this meeting the Special Committee is going to exchange views with some multinational corporations. Furthermore the members of the Special Committee will discuss the outcome and findings from the fact-finding visits the Special Committee’s delegations have made to different countries.

We already reported earlier that multinational corporations did not seem too eager to appear in the Hearings/Meetings of the Special Committee. Based on the information provided by the Special Committee, it initially invited 15 multinationals. The list that is now published shows that 17 invitations have been sent out. From the 17 invitees 4 have agreed to come (Total S.A., SSE plc, BNP Paribas and Airbus).  Based on the information provided the first three will be present during the June 23 meeting and Airbus will be present during the July 2 meeting.

10 of the invitees have declined the invitation and from 3 multinational corporations the Special Committee is still awaiting a formal reply. In this respect we already reported earlier that the Special Committee has called out for help from the national Parliaments. (See our article Frustration rises: EP calls out for help from the national parliaments for getting multinational corporations to appear in Hearings from June 17, 2015)

The meeting is scheduled for June 23, 2015 from 9.00 – 12.30 CET. Unfortunately the Special Committee has not yet provided any information on whether the meeting will be streamed live via the internet, and if so via which link such a webstream would be available. If we are able to locate such a link, we will update this article.
