The European Parliament’s Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect has announced that its next meeting will be a joint meeting with the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. According to the announcement the meeting will take place on July 2, 2015 and it will consist out of two sessions.

 

The first session is due to start at 10.00 CET. During this session the Committees will discuss taxation issues with Mr. Juncker (President of the European Commission) and Mr. Moscovici (Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs).

 

The second session is the afternoon session (no starting time provided yet) during which, according to the announcement, the Committee will exchange views with Richard Murphy (Tax Research LLP and founding member of the Tax Justice Network) and Arjen W.H. Meij. According to the announcement of the Special Committee Mr. Meij is a former Judge at the Court of First Instance. According to our information Mr. Meij’s CV is bit more impressive. Based on our information Mr. Meij was Judge and Chamber President at the General Court of the European Union from 1998 until 2010. Previously he was a Judge at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands and Judge and Vice-President at the Netherlands’ Administrative High Court for Trade and Industry.

 

The announcement furthermore states that the Special Committee will also exchange views with multinational corporations. Based on the information the Special Committee provided on another webpage, at the moment it looks like only one multinational will be attending the meeting. This multinational being Airbus (See the overview over of multinational corporations invited to attend a hearing/meeting as provided by the Special Committee).
