On October 7, 2015 the Australian Government announced that it opened a consultation of the GST Treatment of Cross-Border Transactions. In the announcement the Australian Government invites interested parties to comment on the consultation papers. The closing date for submissions is October 21, 2015.

 

According to the announcement, the exposure draft legislation is the second part of consultation on the Government’s tax integrity measure to extend the GST to digital products and other services imported by consumers. In the announcement it is furthermore stated that the exposure draft builds on the feedback received from the first round of consultation, which was conducted from May 12, 2015 to July 7, 2015.

 

The Australian Government furthermore states that the exposure draft also seeks comments on provisions to give effect to the announced but previously unenacted measure relating to GST cross border transactions and the ‘connected with Australia’ rules.
