Members of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect (TAXE) have repeatedly expressed their frustration that multinational corporations turned down their invitations to appear in a TAXE meeting. From the 18 multinational corporations invited only 4 accepted the invitation and 14 multinational corporations declined the invitation.

Later today TAXE is going to vote on its Draft report (see our article of October 23, 2015, in which you can also find a link to the live webstream), but it has arranged for an extraordinary meeting to take place on November 16, 2015. During this extraordinary meeting TAXE intends to meet with the multinational corporations that declined the earlier invitations. On its webpage TAXE has published the list of multinational corporations that supposedly received an invitation to participate in TAXE’s November 16th meeting. Officially the idea behind the meeting is to provide these multinationals the possibility to provide input regarding TAXE’s Draft Report.

The multinational corporations that according to the information provided by TAXE received an invitation to participate in the November 16th meeting are: Facebook, Google, Amazon.co.uk Ltd, Amazon EU S.à.r.l., Anheuser-Busch InBev, Barclays Bank Group, Coca-Cola Company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, HSBC Bank plc, IKEA Services BV, McDonald’s Europe, Philip Morris International, Walmart and The Walt Disney Company.

According to TAXE as per October 23, 2015 Facebook and Google accepted the invitation to participate in the November 16th meeting. According to an overview available on the website of TAXE as per October 23, 2015 TAXE was still awaiting reply from the other invitees.

It obviously is interesting to keep track of which parties are going to accept this new invitation and which parties are again going to decline. Therefore until November 16, 2015 we intend to report on a regular basis on the status of the responses of the invitees.
