On March 24, 2017 the Japanese Ministry of Finance issued a press release announcing that he Government of Japan and the Government of the Russian Federation will initiate negotiations for the amendment of the current Tax Convention between the two countries which entered into force in 1986. (Convention between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income)

 

The result of the negotiations will not affect the application of the current Tax Convention between Japan and other countries that were part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (other than the Russian Federation).

 

According to the press release The first round of negotiations will take place from March 27, 2017 in Tokyo.
