On June 17, 2016 the last EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council’s (ECOFIN) meeting under the Dutch Presidency will take place. During this meeting the Council will be called upon to agree on a proposal for an Anti Tax Avoidance Directive (Proposal for a COUNCIL DIRECTIVE laying down rules against tax avoidance practices that directly affect the functioning of the internal market).

A proposal for an Anti Tax Avoidance Directive was initially presented by the European Commission on January 28, 2016. Since then the subject has been discussed several times during previous ECOFIN meetings. Since May 2016 four versions of a Presidency compromise in this matter have been published on the website of the Council of the European Union. The most recent version seems to be the one from June 13, 2016.

With the Dutch presidency slowly coming to an end, it might be a good time to have a look how the most recent version of the Presidency compromise looks like. Those who have not yet seen previous versions of the Presidency compromise will note that quite a lot of changes have been made to the text of the initial proposal as presented by the European Commission on January 28, 2016.
