On June 8, 2017 the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs adopted a draft report on the proposal for a Council directive on Double Taxation Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in the European Union (COM(2016)0686 – C8-0035/2017 – 2016/0338(CNS)) as prepared by Rapporteur Michael Theurer. During its June 8, 2017 meeting the Committee voted on the draft report and amendments tabled.

According to a press release issued by the European Parliament the report was approved by 41 votes to 1, with 1 abstention. In the press release it’s furthermore stated that the opinion of the Parliament will now be passed on to the Council for their consideration.

In this respect it’s worth noting that during its meeting of May 23, 2017 the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) agreed on a Presidency compromise for a Proposal for a Council Ditrective on Tax Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in the European Union and that the ECOFIN Council announced The Council will adopt the Directive once the European Parliament has given its opinion. (For more information on this we refer to our article from May 23, 2017)
