Those who have checked our calendar for the week from April 25 – May 1, 2016 might have already noticed that it mentions a live webcast from the European Parliament on April 28, 2016. At the time we initially prepared our calendar not much more information was available with respect to this webcast as that it would involve TAXE 2 and the Policy Department: Economic and Scientific Policy. Today TAXE 2 has announced that it will be a workshop on studies that were requested by TAXE 2. According to TAXE 2 the studies will be presented by their authors.

On April 22, 2016 the Government of the Isle of Man issued a press release announcing that it will join the G5 initiative on the automatic exchange of beneficial ownership information.

During the informal ECOFIN meeting that took place on April 22, 2016 the Finance Ministers of the European Union agreed to enter into a pilot project for the automatic exchange of information on ultimate beneficial owners as a follow-up to last weeks letter by the so-called G5 (The UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy).

On April 22, 2016 the text of the Memorandum of Understanding between Norway and the Netherlands on the exchange of information in tax matters as concluded between the Competent Authorities of the Netherlands and Norway (Hereafter: the MoU) was published in the Dutch Staatscourant. The MoU was signed on April 6, 2016.

According to the publication the MoU entered into force on April 6, 2015. The MoU will be applicable for the first time to information regarding the calendar year 2014.

On April 20, 2016 the Government of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) published the Exchange of Notes and Technical Protocols agreed with the United Kingdom (UK) Government relating to beneficial ownership of companies, which were signed by both Governments on April 8, 2016.
